More Lunch Bag Notes: Everyday Advice From A Dad To His Son
This sequel to Al Parisi's Lunch Bag Notes: Everyday Advice from a
Dad to His Daughter follows the same winning, folksy format as
the original, presenting actual daily notes that Parisi tucked into
his son's lunch bag. Much of the advice is pragmatic and motivational:
Parisi tells his son to be persistent and have a positive attitude, to get
plenty of rest and to learn a new word every day. He also explores ethical and theological themes, drawing from Catholic belief
and practice in ways that will welcome, and not alienate, readers from
other faith traditions. As Parisi's epistles carry his son through
the tumult of a sophomore year in high school during which the boy
learns to drive, breaks up with a girlfriend and juggles heavy
responsibilities, parents will come to see the importance of communication and daily connection with their teens. Every other
page provides questions for reflection or discussion, along with space
to journal.

NFL - Play of the Day
"This book is an outstanding summary of 365 ways for dads to relate
to their kids and wives in many creative ways. It's great for busy men (and even women) who don't have much time to read - the
excerpts are kept very brief, practical, and to the point. Several NFL
football players have stood beside this and throughout the book, they
share their stories and goals for being good fathers. I HIGHLY
recommend this book to any man who wants to learn practical advice
to be a better dad - it will change the way you view your role as a
husband and a father, and help your family love you even more than
they already do!"

Positive Discipline for Preschoolers, Revised Second Edition: For Their
Early Years - Raising Children Who Are Responsible, Respectful, and
Resourceful
Dealing with preschoolers, as any parent will tell you, is a challenge. How do you deal with this little being, that is both
independent and dependent, at the same time? Nelsen, et al, have
provided a common sense approach to raising preschoolers. The
ideas that are presented in this book, when used properly, are
incredibly powerful. An example of this is recognizing the message
being sent by the misbehavior of a preschooler. If you can identify what the message being sent is, then you have a greater chance of
being able to redirect the behavior. Of course, you have to be willing to
take the time to analyze the behavior and define what you are willing to do in response to the behavior.

Stepchildren Speak: 10 Grown-Up Stepchildren Teach Us How to Build
Healthy Stepfamilies
"What a powerful and much-needed resource for stepfamilies! So
many stepfamily issues can be prevented or solved if the adults
involved will do their best to "Step Into the Children's Shoes." Many
thanks to Susan Philips for her work in bringing this important book
to life. As much as I try to step into all my children's shoes and
remain sensitive to their feelings on this complicated stepfamily
journey, her book opened my eyes further and gave me new insights.
What a gift that through Stepchildren Speak we can learn from the
voices of grown-up stepchildren who have shared their stories, their
struggles, their triumphs and their advice, so that we might all be
better parents and stepparents NOW."

Stepparenting
This is a great resource. One thing that sets this book apart from the numerous others on stepparenting is that it speaks to the
biological parent as well as the stepparent. Suggestions for opening
dialogue between partners coming from entirely different backgrounds,
and problem solving steps and procedures are prescribed. The
viewpoints of the stepparent, the biological parent, and the child are
detailed. This makes it somewhat easier to understand one another.
Teamwork and the re-establishment of the household are the major
emphasis here. The discussion starters that Lofas suggests between
two partners can be a bit painful and emotional, but help lead to a
better understanding of each other. Thus, a stronger bond is created.
